How to correctly lay a Patio or Path.

PATIO'S & FEATURE GARDENS EXPLAINED.

You will see from some of our patio and paving pictures (under portfolio) that throughout all of your re-design we aim to be as clean and tidy as we possibly can. We aim to eliminate as much of the messy stage, clearing up as we go, to keep all areas tidy during all excavations.

Patio and Paving slabs need to remain sturdy and fully supported, Our Patio's and Paving remain sturdy because they are properly fitted. We also use the same sand/cement mixture for the pointing in between each slab, making it integral with the mortar bed. Not only does this eliminate lose slabs, it also eliminates frost and torrential rain from getting in between and under the slabs.

You can then easily use a jet wash to clean your patio area, which again is another benefit. Using this method means we can guarantee that there will definitely be no weeds, seeds or grass growing in the completed paving.

Paving Slabs must be laid on a firm level base, the depth of this base depends upon the proposed use of the paving. For straight forward patio's and path's we remove the top soil or grassed area, digging down 100mm below existing ground level. If a patio area is close to building ground level it should be a 2 brick course below D.P.C level. This is to allow for the thickness of the slabs and base.

We then level the ground and place down a 100mm deep stone base. After correctly checking all levels, if needed or requested we include drainage channels and lower any drains lids and manhole covers. Some customers wish to change there older style manhole lids and drain lids for newer ones, which we can cut and place matching slabs within the top to blend them into the garden, making them less noticeable.

We then place down a firm  wet bed base of sharp sand and cement, usually a 3 part sand to 2 part cement. We then position the patio slabs accordingly, constantly paying special attention to each slabs alignment and to ensure the correct fall is applied to shed rainwater. We include any drainage channels if needed to eliminate excess water due to extreme weather conditions and of course dependent upon your local flood plane area.

The Paving slabs are kept in line with string lines set out to the correct levels. This again helps to keep each slab in line with correct fall levels. Once the slabs have dried we then point them in with a pointing-in iron. Assuring 'You the Customer' that every process has been carried out professionally giving you a long lasting beautiful low maintenance feature patio.

We then check over our work and ensure that you 'the customer' are 100% happy with your completed design, we then would request the final payment or full outstanding payment if no deposit was paid during installation.

We then issue a receipt which is your guarantee so keep it safe.
